Campaigns intern

UNITE HERE Local 25 is searching for a paid intern to support our unprecedented ongoing external organizing efforts. The restaurant industry is infamous for toxic work cultures, low pay, and high turnover. Hundreds of restaurant workers across DC see that it doesn’t need to be this way - and are organizing for stability, respect, and dignity in their workplaces.

Candidates who are conversationally fluent in Spanish are strongly preferred

As a Campaigns Intern, your role will include:

  • Picketing, bullhorning, leafleting and otherwise creating a physical presence for the union

  • Helping draft campaign materials or graphics

  • Assisting in outreach to the legislative branch and City Council

  • Assisting in translation and transcription

  • Assisting in worker interviews and statements

  • Managing physical and digital documents

  • Helping organize larger rallies and campaign events

  • Research that could include power mapping companies

Candidates for this position must be:

  • Physically able to picket, bullhorn, and leaflet for up to 4 hrs/day – often in the evenings and on weekends

  • Flexibility with scheduling and work hours, willingness to frequently work over 40 hours a week

  • Proficient in Canva and Microsoft Suite

  • Exceptional at working with a team to complete tasks in a timely manner

  • Motivated to further the goals of economic and racial justice in the DMV and in the restaurant/hospitality industry
